Puma will sponsor the World Cup

Zeitz said Puma will exploit the World Cup, increasing market spending next year ``significantly'' to close the gap with larger rivals Adidas sneakers and Nike Inc. He said Puma will promote itself as an alternative to the big two by promoting sponsorships with African teams on the coming months.

The tournament is due to begin June 9 and end a month later. Matches will be played in cities including Stuttgart and Munich before the final in Berlin.
